Home Support Worker / Caregiver – Elderly Care (NOC 44101)

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable and experienced Home Support Worker to provide in-home care and support to an elderly woman living with dementia and her adult son who has a medical condition. The caregiver will provide personal care, assistance with activities of daily living, companionship, meal preparation, medication support, light housekeeping related to the care recipients, and assistance with appointments and errands.

Main Duties

• Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.

• Assist with bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming and personal hygiene.

• Assist with mobility, walking and safe transfers as required.

• Provide care and supervision for an elderly person living with dementia.

• Provide appropriate support to an adult with a medical condition.

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals according to dietary needs.

• Assist with feeding when required.

• Provide medication reminders and assistance with medication routines as directed.

• Monitor the care recipients' well-being and report significant changes to the employer/family.

• Provide companionship and emotional support.

• Assist with appointments and errands.

• Perform light housekeeping related to the care recipients, including laundry, dishes and

• maintaining their living areas.

• Shop for groceries and household supplies related to the care recipients' needs.

• Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.

Requirements

• Secondary school graduation certificate or equivalent.

• Minimum 1 year of relevant caregiving or home-support experience.

• First Aid and CPR certification.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

• Ability to perform the physical and personal-care duties required by the position.

• Vulnerable sector criminal record check required.

• Additional dementia-care or caregiving training is an asset.

Work Conditions

• Employment is performed in the employer's private residence in Calgary, Alberta.

• Non-smoking environment.

• The position is full-time and permanent.

• Live-in accommodation is optional and is not a condition of employment.

• If live-in accommodation is chosen, a private furnished bedroom with an ensuite bathroom will be provided at no cost to the caregiver.
