Our family in downtown Toronto is seeking a permanent, full-time child care provider to care for our toddler in our private home. The position is based in our non-smoking household. Optional live-in accommodation is available at no charge, but it is not a condition of employment. The caregiver must have a flexible schedule, as hours may include early mornings, days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities include all aspects of toddler care, such as feeding, bathing, diaper changing, supervising play, supporting emotional well-being, and encouraging cognitive, emotional and social development through consistent routines and activities. The role also involves preparing healthy meals, maintaining a safe and tidy home environment, light housekeeping, providing first aid if needed, traveling with us when required, and assuming full responsibility for the household in our absence.

Applicants must have completed secondary school, have at least five years of experience as a childcare provider, and hold valid First Aid and CPR certification. English is required, and Portuguese is an asset.

Key responsibilities:

• Change diapers

• Follow parents' lead with toilet training

• Assume full responsibility for household in absence of parents

• Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties

• Travel with family on trips and assist with child supervision and housekeeping duties

• Bathe, dress and feed child

• Discipline child according to the methods requested by the parents

• Instruct child in personal hygiene and social development

• Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home

• Organize activities such as games and outings for child

• Prepare and serve nutritious, varied meals for child

• Prepare child for rest periods

• Supervise and monitor children's activities to ensure safety at all times

• Tend to emotional well-being of child

• Foster child’s rapid development through consistent routines, active play and safe exploration

• Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and recreational activities

• Communicate regularly with parents regarding children's progress and needs

• Administer first-aid and other assistance

Skills

• Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices is desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to engage children through teaching, play, and developmental activities.

• Strong caregiving skills with patience, empathy, and excellent communication abilities. 

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school.

• At least five years of relevant experience in child care.

• Experience working with toddlers.

• First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English is required.
